This is a common question among beginner artists looking to make some coins of their pieces. Unfortunately, there is no way to directly tell how much a piece of work is worth. When a price is placed on any piece of art, the client’s value it by paying for it. there are a variety of different prices on different art pieces depending on the work you put it. sometimes, when you under value a piece of art, the client can value it and pay for it accordingly.

Your skill level will determine the price on the piece of art.

As a beginner, selling your art will not give you so much money. It is a way to connect with art lovers and other artists and to find people who like or recognize your form of art before you can put a hefty price tag on more professional pieces.  Unless you have previous pieces sold and perfected your skill level for a number of years, your art will not sell as expensive as people who have been in the game for centuries. Do not set yourself up by promising your customers something that you will not be able to deliver.

Get the commission in writing when selling your art pieces

This is a great way to protect yourself/business and art pieces. Some people will not pay a dime as long as there are no legal repercussions. Some people will go to the extent of changing the prices even when one is agreed upon. Get the agreement in a legally binding contract so the client won’t turn on you once they have the piece of art. the contract must be very specific and have a clear understanding of what you and the other party expect.

Always get the deposit

Not all people work the same and that’s just part of how business operates. Some clients will change their mind or cancel the order even after you have put time and effort in one piece. This is why it is wise to always ask for a deposit before you start any project to avoid any losses. In events where the clients are not pleased with the piece, at least you will have some sort of payment for your effort.


Ensure you have written contracts at all time, whether you are displaying your pieces online or at art galleries. It is necessary to have consenting signatures on the contract for it to work legally.
