This 8-year educational and cultural project will launch in the 2008-2009 season with the intention of researching, writing and performing 5 bi-lingual (English and Italian) plays bringing stories of events, said to have occurred during that time period in Tuscany, to the stage
Year One
January – April 2009
Introducing difficult history to children through the development of historical drama. Acclaimed educator and playwright, Dominique Cieri, arrives to hold workshops for educators and students on this subject. Research gathering begins by 5 teams of students and children. Culminating event.
Year Two
January – April 2010
Five new teams of children and students will work to develop the material into complex story/narrative form under Ms. Cieri's guidance. Art students will illustrate the story.
Year Three
January – April 2011
A third team will develop the stories into five full-length bi-lingual plays under Ms. Cieri's guidance.
Years Four through Eight
January 2012, January 2013, January 2014, January 2015, January 2016
Performances by members of the community – local and international, young and old – will take place.
The intention of the project is to connect as many individuals from the diverse groups of Florence and its international visitors as possible through the artistic process of creating valuable historical drama and, ultimately, both sharing that dramatic history with the Florence community and making it available to others in educational and artistic institutions worldwide.
